Ocala, FL, November 11, 2021 – On Top of the World Communities very own Veterans Club hosted a day-long celebration for Veterans Day honoring those who have served.

This morning, the festivities started at 8 am, where residents, club members, VFW, and American Legion members gathered at Veterans Park for a traditional 15-minute raising of the flags ceremony.

The ceremony proceeded at 11 am. Guests gathered in OTOW’s Recreation Center Ballroom to watch West Port High Schools honor guard and enjoy a performance from the “Dancing Jewels,” who choreographed routines to each military branches fight song. Residents and friends heard from dignified speakers Robert “Boe” Stepp, USMC (Ret.) Captain Ken Bucket, who serves as OTOW’s Veteran Service Officer and Jo Frolick, who announced the Veterans Yoga Project is coming to OTOW. Lt. Colonel Arlow Jansen, who was recognized with a quilt of valor, closed the ceremony.

A bake sale was also in full-swing during the reception, with all proceeds benefitting Operation Shoebox, a non-profit that sends military troops care packages with snacks, personal care items, and hand-written notes.

President of the Veterans Club Charlie Calhoun thanked On Top of the World for their unwavering support of veteran residents. “On Top of the World continues to support veterans in this community. They built the Veterans Park to honor those who have served and open up their facilities to our club. A lot of other communities in Florida do not give us what they do.”
