OTOW Billiard Club

Billiards, also known as pool, is a game loved by many people of all ages.  The commonality of pool tables in restaurants, recreation centers, and other public establishments makes introductions to the sport very accessible. On Top of the World Communities (OTOW) has a billiard room with 11 world-class Diamond pool tables and one 10′ snooker table. Here is where you can find many members of the Billiard Club spending their free time. Phil Panzera (President of the OTOW Billiard Club ) proclaims that “OTOW has the nicest pool room of any senior community in Florida,” and describes it as the “hidden gem” of OTOW.

Although it can be difficult to master, Phil explains that “pool is unique in that you don’t have to be good at it to enjoy it.” Playing pool has both physical and mental benefits. It helps build focus, critical thinking skills, and hand-eye coordination while also prompting movement and stretching for your body.

The Billiard Club has quarterly meetings, leagues, tournaments, and social events that members regularly attend. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each quarter in the Hobby Building’s Event Room. There are currently 340 active members of the Billiard Club which helps add to the “friendly and social” atmosphere of the club (Phil Panzera). Phil explains that participating in the club allows you to “do something you enjoy while also being with friends.”

Phil encourages residents interested in joining the club not to worry about skill level. Many club members play at a basic level and purely for the enjoyment and love of the game. You’ll fit right in regardless of skill, or lack thereof! There are house cues available for newcomers, and Phil recommends using those for a few weeks while you get a feel for the game and the club before investing in your own personal cue.

Upcoming club events include the start of the new Winter League, their annual Christmas Dinner and Dance, and a Winter Medley Tournament.
