Rick & Glenda >>
Rick & Glenda grew up in Palm Beach County, Florida, where they graduated from the same high school, Old Riviera Beach High School. But, despite having many mutual friends, they did not meet until their 30th high school reunion! Glenda worked in the dental field for many years while Rick had a 27-year career flying in the US Navy and then went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After reconnecting, they moved to The Villages where he had worked (now retired), and Glenda danced! She was a dancer for the Orlando Magic Silver Stars dance team and has also performed with the Silver Rockettes, a senior precision dance team, and was a Village Cheerleader. Between them, they have five children and eight grandchildren. Now they enjoy their retirement here at On Top of the World by dancing at the Town Square, partaking in fitness activities and softball, and enjoying their Harley Davidson.
<< Louie & Sandra
As Louie and Sandra approached retirement, they felt they had set their minds on their forever home in Fayetteville, North Carolina. A place they had called home for many years and raised their children, and where Louie retired after serving 20 years with the US Army. Sandra planned to retire as a hairdresser and continue to be a yoga instructor. “But, as our universe would have it, we were exposed to the Active Adult Communities in Florida. We fell in love with the thought of having all kinds of activities in our backyard. So, after a long search of many communities, we decided on On Top of the World,” says Sandra. She is now learning to play the ukulele, leads a chair yoga class in our Rec Center as well as a new yoga class at The Ranch Fitness Center and Spa. Louie can be found working on his 1971 VW Super Beetle, affectionately known as “Rusty.” He also enjoys racquetball and golf, while they both love pickleball! Additionally, they enjoy spending time with Sandra’s mother, who also lives in OTOW, and their two Maltese dogs. “We thank God each day that we are active and living the dream… our dream.”
Joe & Usha >>
Not your average retirees! Originally from New York and India, respectively, Joe and Usha are IT professionals who met and lived in Wellington, Florida, for over 25 years before discovering On Top of the World. They were thrilled by all that OTOW had to offer, and since they both work from home, they realized they could work from anywhere and decided that OTOW was the perfect place for them! Solar homes were what initially attracted Joe and Usha to OTOW. After doing their World Tour Adventure stay and finding out that those very homes had just become available for sale, they decided to purchase and add solar panels.
Now, they thoroughly enjoy all that OTOW has to offer. They are ecstatic to have discovered pickleball as their new favorite sport and spend most of their spare time playing with other club members. They also remain actively engaged with their neighbors and have met some wonderful people. They love the golf cart lifestyle and enjoy meeting friends at the Town Square along with attending concerts at Circle Square Cultural Center. As they get closer to retirement, Joe and Usha hope to get more involved with volunteering in the community as well as learning and possibly teaching at Master the Possibilities.
Susan has lived in New York since she was 19, but in 2006 she and her family decided to move to Florida. Sadly, her husband passed away before the move. But she came anyway with four of her six children! She wanted warmer weather and found Ocala to be just perfect. As time passed, she discovered On Top of the World through one of her friend’s fathers who lived at OTOW, and she liked the atmosphere. In addition to her six children, she now has four grandchildren and takes great pride in their many accomplishments. As a resident, Susan loves the many activities offered that she can partake in. She also enjoys the ability to mix and mingle with all of the fun and interesting people here at OTOW. She is an active member of the SWANS, a new WOW member, loves taking road trips with friends, dancing, and has a 172-177 bowling average! She also wants to get involved with RC flying. “I love the active lifestyle and all the opportunities to be a part of a great community.”
John & Cherryl >>
John and Cherryl moved to OTOW in 2019 from a beautiful north Georgia mountain home. Maintenance and dreary winters had them needing something they could handle as they were getting older. After two trips to visit On Top of the World, they decided THIS was where they need to be. “We built a beautiful home in Balmoral and couldn’t be more satisfied with the home and all the amenities we have here.” Cherryl does custom embroidery work, and John enjoys golf, kayaking, and riding his motorcycle. She is also enjoying Master the Possibilities and has already taken stained glass and china painting classes since she is the artist in the home! The four-legged family members, Gracie (Yorkie) and Addie (Blue Healer) love it here too. They go to the dog park twice a day and have many canine buddies to play with. John and Cherryl recently discovered a couple here that they knew 20 years ago in Georgia while reading our the OTOW World Newspaper!! “Whether you run into an old friend or discover new ones, On Top of the World is a great place to meet people.”
<< Anderson & Shirley
Anderson and Shirley are from Birmingham, Alabama, and relocated to a city just south, Alabaster. They have two sons and four grandsons. Anderson retired as a Municipal Heavy Equipment Operator and from the Armed Forces after 28 years of service, while Shirley is a retired Projects Manager. It was a dream for them to move to Florida. “We chose Ocala because of its convenient location to beaches and Cruise Ports as we love to cruise. We visited other 55+ communities but realized quickly that the residents here are so friendly, and we loved all of the choices in home plans! Though our home will not be ready for a while, we chose to relocate to a rental on property so we can begin our lives at On Top of the World.” Anderson enjoys his motorcycle, playing softball, and tinkering with cars, while Shirley loves crocheting, painting, and dance classes. They are making the most out of their retirement here at OTOW.
